Guess What Scrap Item Has Highest Recycling Rate?
Corrugated (cardboard) paper products enjoy a 73% recycling rate, aluminum cans about 63%, but the recycling success rate for disposable or single-use cameras is 75%, and climbing!
What contributes to this fantastic success rate? First, a waste commodity which by its very nature MUST be processed by an established film processor (know anybody who developes their own pictures from disposable cameras?); second, a highly recyclable and mostly reusable design for the product (notice the article states that every component can be used again or recycled, sometimes multiple times); and third, a strong financial, legislative, and economic incentive for the manufacturers of these items to work cooperatively to attain these high recycling rates.
